Weekend Registered Nurse (RN) Supervisor

We are seeking a Weekend Registered Nurse (RN) Supervisor to oversee and coordinate nursing care on assigned shifts in a skilled nursing facility. This leadership role is responsible for supervising licensed nurses and Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs), managing clinical operations, and ensuring high-quality, person-centered care in accordance with physician orders, regulatory standards, and facility policies.

Responsibilities

Supervision and Leadership

• Oversee and manage daily nursing operations on the assigned shift
• Supervise, support, and guide LPNs/LVNs and CNAs in delivering safe, effective, and compassionate care
• Delegate assignments appropriately based on resident needs, staff competency, and acuity levels
• Monitor staff performance, workflow, and time management to ensure efficient care delivery
• Address performance concerns, provide coaching, and initiate corrective actions in accordance with facility policy

Resident Care Management

• Monitor residents' conditions and ensure timely and appropriate nursing interventions
• Respond to emergencies, changes in condition, and critical incidents promptly and effectively
• Perform or assist with resident assessments, care planning, medication administration, and treatments as needed
• Ensure continuity of care and adherence to individualized plans of care
• Assist with working a medication cart and administering medications as needed

Communication and Documentation

• Ensure accurate, timely, and complete nursing documentation by all staff
• Communicate resident status updates, concerns, and shift reports to oncoming staff and interdisciplinary team members
• Notify physicians, nurse practitioners, families, and responsible parties of changes in condition, incidents, or care needs as required
• Collaborate with administration and ancillary departments to support resident care goals and operational effectiveness

Quality Assurance and Compliance

• Conduct routine shift rounds to observe care delivery and identify quality, safety, or service concerns
• Ensure compliance with infection prevention protocols, HIPAA requirements, resident rights, and facility policies
• Participate in audits, incident investigations, Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) initiatives, and regulatory compliance activities
• Assist with maintaining survey readiness and implementing corrective actions as directed

Staff Development and Support

• Participate in orientation, training, competency validation, and evaluation of new and current nursing staff
• Serve as a mentor, coach, and clinical resource to promote professional growth and clinical excellence
• Support a positive, respectful, and collaborative work environment
• Assist staff in managing challenging behaviors, high-acuity residents, emergencies, and stressful situations

Required Qualifications

• Current, active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of employment
• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Minimum of one to two years of nursing experience
• Regular and reliable attendance
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, and move throughout the facility for extended periods
• Ability to lift, push, pull, or assist with moving residents and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, with or without assistance
• Visual and auditory acuity sufficient to assess residents, review documentation, and communicate effectively
• Manual dexterity required for medication administration, treatments, clinical procedures, and operation of medical equipment
• Ability to respond quickly, appropriately, and calmly during emergency situations
• Proficiency with electronic health records (EHR) and basic computer systems
• Knowledge of long-term care regulations, infection prevention practices, quality improvement principles, and resident safety standards
• Strong clinical judgment, assessment, delegation, and leadership skills
• Effective communication, conflict-resolution, and interpersonal abilities
• Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced healthcare environment
• Must be available to serve on-call as needed and provide clinical leadership, guidance, and support during after-hours, weekends, holidays, and emergency situations

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification
• Experience in a skilled nursing, rehabilitation, or long-term care setting
• Prior supervisory, charge nurse, or leadership experience

Work Environment

This position is performed in a healthcare, rehabilitation, skilled nursing, or long-term care environment. The noise level is usually low to moderate. You will have direct or indirect exposure to residents with medical conditions, infectious diseases, or communicable illnesses. Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to infection control protocols is required. The role requires professionalism, confidentiality, leadership, and collaboration with residents, families, physicians, staff, vendors, and interdisciplinary team members.
