The opportunity

Job Description

This full-time school nurse position serves students at Wilson Elementary School and provides floater coverage as needed. You will report daily to the School/Community Health Services Coordinator to receive assignments supporting the health needs of the student body, including wellness promotion, illness and injury care, and assistance with specific health procedures.

  • School/Community Health Services Coordinator
  • Building Principal
  • Regional School Health Coordinator of assigned school

Schedule and Compensation

  • Full-time, 185 days per year, 7.5 hours per day
  • LPN: N4 Salary Scale
  • RN: N6 Salary Scale
  • 2025-2026 salary scales apply

Responsibilities

  • Maintain confidentiality of student information
  • Attend to student health needs following First Aid Guide For School Emergencies protocols
  • Assist with recommended and state-mandated health screenings
  • Administer medications and treatments according to Augusta County Public Schools policy
  • Maintain accurate student records and daily logs
  • Assist in collecting data for state-required or local reports
  • Report major health concerns to the supervising nurse and building administrator within appropriate timelines
  • Report suspected child abuse and neglect to the supervising nurse, building principal, and Child Protective Services
  • Initiate and distribute incident and accident reports per school division policy
  • Communicate with parents on health-related issues

Required Qualifications

  • Active Board of Nursing Licensed Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
  • Ability to work professionally with students, staff, and parents
  • Ability to follow directions, policies, and protocols outlined by school board policy and state and federal regulations
  • Knowledge of universal precautions
  • Current First Aid certification
  • Current CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) certification

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of childhood growth and development
  • Knowledge of childhood illnesses and injuries
  • Office management skills such as typing and filing
  • Basic computer skills
  • Experience in the care of school-age children

Evaluation

  • Annual evaluation by supervising and building administrator in accordance with school board policy and administrative regulations for paraprofessional personnel
  • Bi-annual on-site evaluations by the School Community Health Services Coordinator or Regional School Health Coordinator
