Job Description

Blount Memorial Hospital is seeking a Unit Secretary/Certified Nursing Assistant for the Medical Telemetry unit. This is a full-time, day-shift position that combines administrative and clinical support responsibilities. You will work under the direction of Registered Nurses to provide excellent customer service, perform clerical and administrative duties, and assist with patient care activities.

This is a cross-trained position requiring you to perform Unit Secretary duties along with clinical support functions such as Patient Care Technician, Nursing Specialty Technician, or Certified Nursing Assistant work. At least 20% of your time will be spent in a clinical support role, though this percentage may vary by unit.

Responsibilities

  • Provide excellent customer service to patients, families, and staff with kindness, courtesy, professionalism, and efficiency
  • Walk visitors to their destinations and answer phones/intercoms in a friendly manner
  • Participate in patient care rounding with unit staff, including daily introductions to patients and families using AIDET
  • Manage ordering, stocking, and inventory of equipment and supplies in collaboration with the nurse manager
  • Monitor daily supplies, order office and special supplies, monitor PAR levels, and maintain and organize unit supply rooms
  • Perform general reception and clerical duties at the nurse's station, including responding to patient calls via intercom or in person
  • Provide administrative and clerical support including data entry, meeting minutes, maintaining bulletin boards, and organizing downtime forms
  • Coordinate the maintenance of a safe, clean, and functional physical environment in accordance with regulatory standards, including cleaning equipment
  • Perform clinical support duties as a Certified Nursing Assistant, Patient Care Technician, or Nursing Specialty Technician, which may include data collection related to patient status, basic nursing procedures, monitoring and measuring patient responses, assisting with treatments and procedures, and assisting with maintenance of patient care equipment
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Completion of a nursing assistant class
  • Current CNA certification (or current Tennessee CNA certification as proof of completed state-required training at time of hire)
