UHC: Registered Nurse Emergency Depart. 615pm-645 am.

United Hospital Center is seeking a Registered Nurse for the Emergency Department on a night shift (6:15 PM - 6:45 AM). This position provides direct inpatient nursing care in a fast-paced emergency setting, where you will deliver evidence-based care, manage patient plans, and collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to achieve quality patient outcomes.

You will work as an RN Level I, applying clinical knowledge and independent nursing judgment to assess patient needs, modify care plans based on individual requirements, and delegate appropriately within your scope of practice. This role requires the ability to work effectively under highly stressful conditions, adapt to varying workloads, and maintain strong communication with patients, families, and healthcare team members.

Responsibilities

• Deliver direct patient care using the nursing process and evidence-based practice
• Assess and interpret patient data to identify age-specific needs and requirements
• Modify patient care plans based on data collection and individual patient needs
• Delegate care according to scope of practice
• Verify care plans with interprofessional colleagues, patients, and caregivers
• Provide patient and family education based on learning needs
• Promote effective communication among team members and healthcare consumers
• Utilize appropriate resources and patient handling equipment for safe care delivery
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives and nursing quality reviews
• Engage in continuing professional development
• Identify and address ethical situations appropriately
• Participate in activities related to nurse-sensitive indicators
• Complete annual specialty accreditation education as required

Required Qualifications

• Current Registered Nurse license issued by the state where services will be provided, or current multi-state RN license through the enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC)
• One year of registered nursing experience
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days of hire date

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree

Physical Requirements

• Ability to perform heavy/hard work requiring strength and stamina, including lifting, moving, stooping, reaching, standing, walking, and carrying materials and equipment weighing 40+ pounds
• All patient transfers, lifts, and repositioning must be completed using lift equipment and patient handling aids as indicated
• Visual acuity within normal range
• Hearing within normal range to assess breath sounds, bowel sounds, apical pulse, and monitor alarms

Clinical Advancement Program

The CAPE program is a system-wide clinical advancement program that provides professional development and recognition for quality clinical performance. RN Level I nurses with one year of experience may advance to Level 2. Progression to higher levels requires additional experience, education, specialty certifications, and demonstrated competencies in charge nurse duties, precepting, and quality improvement activities.
