This is a 13-week travel contract position for a Registered Nurse specializing in oncology at a medical/surgical oncology unit in Fort Wayne, Indiana. You will provide direct patient care to oncology patients, administer chemotherapy and blood products, and work collaboratively with the healthcare team to develop and implement individualized care plans.
Clinical Setting
- 24-bed medical/surgical oncology unit
- Patient ratio of 5:1, sometimes 6:1
- Floating required
- EMR system: Cerner
Schedule
- Full-time contract position
- Night shift: 7 PM to 7 AM
- 72 hours bi-weekly
- Every other or every third weekend required
- Holidays on rotation schedule
- Every other holiday required
- No on-call requirements
Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care to oncology patients in various settings
- Administer medications and monitor patient responses to treatments
- Administer chemotherapy and manage blood products
- Educate patients and families about cancer treatments and care plans
- Monitor vital signs and report any changes to the healthcare team
- Assist in managing patient pain and discomfort effectively
- Document patient progress and maintain accurate medical records
- Collaborate with healthcare teams to develop individualized care plans
- Participate in ongoing professional development and training opportunities
- Engage in performance evaluations and set personal improvement goals
- Utilize data to assess patient outcomes and improve care strategies
- Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations and safety standards

Required Qualifications
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Indiana
- ACLS certification
- BLS certification
- Minimum 2 years of nursing experience
- Ability to work effectively in a high-visibility, results-oriented environment
- Strong communication skills for patient and family education
- Strong problem-solving skills to manage patient pain and discomfort
- Competency in monitoring vital signs and responding to changes
- Knowledge of healthcare regulations and safety standards compliance
- Experience with documenting patient progress and maintaining records
- Ability to collaborate with healthcare teams for individualized care
Preferred Qualifications
- Oncology nursing experience
- Experience in related healthcare fields
Additional Requirements
- Lutheran employed staff are required to obtain chemo/bio certification within one year of employment
- Navy blue scrubs required
