This is a full-time travel contract position for a Registered Nurse to serve as a School Nurse in Montpelier, Vermont. You will provide comprehensive nursing care to students in a school campus setting, managing both acute and chronic health conditions while promoting student wellness and safety.
Clinical Setting
You will work in a school campus environment during regular daytime school hours, collaborating with school administrators, counselors, teachers, and families to support student health and learning.
Responsibilities
- Provide immediate, high-quality nursing care for acute illnesses, injuries, and emergencies occurring on campus
- Administer prescribed medications and oversee treatment schedules
- Manage individualized healthcare plans (IHPs) for students with chronic conditions or special needs
- Coordinate immunization records and execute health screenings including vision and hearing assessments
- Manage community referrals in compliance with state standards
- Educate students, families, and school personnel on health promotion, disease prevention, and hygiene practices
- Maintain accurate, timely documentation of student visits, treatments, and incident reports in the electronic health record (EHR) and school health logs
- Liaise with local health departments, primary care providers, and families to coordinate care and track vaccination compliance
Schedule
- Mondays and Fridays, 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM EST
- 14 hours per week
- Day shift during standard school calendar hours
Compensation
- Pay rate: $726.88 per day
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) strongly preferred, or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) accepted with prior school health or pediatric experience
- Active, unrestricted RN license in Vermont or active multistate/compact license
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
- Prior nursing experience in pediatrics, school health, or community health nursing
- Proficiency with EHR systems and standardized health record-keeping
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills to engage effectively with students, parents, and school staff
- Strong organizational skills and adaptability in a dynamic environment
Preferred Qualifications
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) or School Health Nurse certification
- Certified School Nurse (CSN) or Pediatric Nursing Certification (CPN)
- Bilingual skills (Spanish or other languages)
