TOSH Operating Room Registered Nurse

We are seeking an experienced Operating Room Registered Nurse to join our surgical team. In this role, you will provide direct patient care in the operating room setting, utilizing the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care. You will work collaboratively with the interdisciplinary surgical team to ensure optimal patient outcomes and a safe surgical environment.

Responsibilities

Assessment

  • Perform comprehensive assessment of patients' physical, social, and psychological status, including cognitive, communicative, and developmental skills as appropriate
  • Seek and evaluate information from the interdisciplinary team, including patients, families, physicians, and support staff

Planning

  • Use assessment information and critical thinking skills to collaboratively develop individualized plans of care
  • Actively involve patients, families, the surgical team, and physicians in developing the plan of care, including necessary education
  • Plan and prepare patients for follow-up support needs, including teaching, referrals, and post-operative care coordination

Implementation

  • Direct the interdisciplinary care team through delegation, coordination, and collaboration as appropriate
  • Provide or delegate care consistent with the plan of care, established guidelines, and professional licensure provisions
  • Demonstrate the ability to set priorities and coordinate patient care delivery by effectively managing time, supplies, and resources

Evaluation

  • Evaluate patient response to interventions through review of goal achievement, clinical outcomes, and patient and family satisfaction
  • Revise the plan of care as indicated and reassess changes as appropriate

Professionalism

  • Promote the nursing profession and participate in the development of colleagues
  • Integrate legal and ethical standards into practice, comply with regulatory standards, practice within scope of licensure, provide accurate and timely documentation, and understand the legal implications of care delivery

Required Qualifications

  • Current RN license in the state of practice
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for healthcare providers
  • Two years of experience as an OR circulator
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution
  • One year of OR circulator experience in orthopedic surgery

Physical Requirements

This position requires the ability to:

  • See and read information, labels, and patient needs; operate monitors; and identify equipment and supplies
  • Frequently interact with patient care providers, patients, and visitors through verbal communication; hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations
  • Manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy using manual dexterity of hands and fingers, including frequent computer use and typing for documentation, information access, and medication preparation
  • Lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients; bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment of varying weights, including heavy items
  • Walk and assist with transporting and ambulating patients; obtain and distribute supplies and equipment; push and pull gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items
  • Navigate crowded and busy operating rooms filled with equipment and power cords
  • Stand in a stationary position for extended periods of time
