High Point Medical Center's Surgery Department is seeking a PRN (as-needed) Surgical Technologist to assist with operating room coverage and support staff PTO requests. This part-time position offers flexible scheduling in a fast-paced surgical environment.

Clinical Setting

You will work in the operating room at a 37703-bed facility, supporting surgical procedures under the direction of the Registered Nurse and surgical team.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure quality patient care, safety, and advocacy through critical thinking, anticipation, and management of case-specific needs under direct RN supervision
  • Prepare and stock the operating room before and after surgery
  • Gather clean and sterile supplies and set up sterile instrument fields
  • Maintain and monitor aseptic techniques throughout procedures
  • Ensure complete, accurate, and timely care, cleanliness, and management of instruments, equipment, and supplies
  • Communicate effectively, positively, and professionally with the multidisciplinary team, coworkers, and patients using verbal and nonverbal communication
  • Take personal responsibility and initiative for performance, professional growth, and development
  • Demonstrate cost containment activities related to instruments and inventory

Required Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited Surgical Technology program
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification
  • Ability to function effectively under stressful and difficult situations
  • Resilience and flexibility in a changing environment
  • Systems knowledge for patient safety
  • Technology and informatics skills
  • Ability to handle emergency or crisis situations

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification in a specialty surgical area

Work Environment

This role involves possible exposure to infections and contagious diseases, hazardous anesthetic agents, body fluids and wastes, toxic chemicals, and radiation. You will work in highly stressful and crowded, noisy conditions with many interruptions and be subject to emergency situations. Required protective equipment includes eye/face protection, gown, mask, gloves, and hair covering.

Compensation and Benefits Information

Advocate Health offers base compensation within the listed pay range based on qualifications, skills, relevant experience, and training. Additional compensation may include premium pay for shift differentials and on-call duties.
