Newton-Wellesley Hospital, part of Mass General Brigham, is seeking a Surgical Technologist II for the Operating Room. This is a full-time regular position working a rotating schedule of 2 twelve-hour shifts and 2 eight-hour shifts per week, totaling 40 hours.
In this role, you will work under supervision as an integral member of the surgical team, assisting in operative procedures and ensuring optimal operating room conditions. You will prepare and transport patients for surgery, set up equipment and supplies, position patients on the operating table with appropriate sterile draping, pass instruments and supplies to surgeons and surgical assistants, hold retractors, cut sutures, and help count sponges, needles, supplies, and instruments. You will participate in time-out procedures and actively monitor operating room conditions to assess patient and surgical team needs.
Responsibilities
- Participate in time-out procedures
- Obtain extra supplies and equipment as needed
- Set up equipment independently
- Participate as an active member of the Patient Care Team
- Monitor and continually assess operating room conditions, including patient and surgical team needs
- Prepare patients for surgery, including positioning patients on the operating table and covering them with sterile surgical drapes to prevent exposure
- Demonstrate knowledge of SPD Sterile Room procedures
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- 2-3 years of experience as a surgical technologist in an acute care setting
- Knowledge of SPD Sterile Room
- Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced clinical environment
- Advanced knowledge of sterile processing procedures and policies
- Familiarity with medical terminology and departmental supply items
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) - National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA)
- Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA) - National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA)
- Four years of experience as a surgical technologist in an acute care setting
- Committee and leadership experience (3-5 years)

Compensation
- Hourly pay range: $33.25 - $40.53
