This full-time position offers Registered Nurses the opportunity to provide direct surgical patient care in a hospital setting. You will be accountable for delivering safe, high-quality care in accordance with JSMC policy, CMS standards, Joint Commission regulations, and state nursing practice requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Establish rapport with patients and families to identify care requirements
  • Provide emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients and their families
  • Promote patient independence by establishing care goals, teaching about conditions and medications, and supporting self-care skills
  • Complete nursing history and assessment within 24 hours of admission
  • Determine and deliver age-appropriate care
  • Develop, prioritize, update, and maintain individualized plans of care
  • Coordinate and collaborate on the plan of care with the healthcare team
  • Incorporate discharge planning needs into the plan of care
  • Delegate duties based on complexity of patient needs
  • Utilize critical thinking skills in prioritization of care
  • Administer medications observing the "6 rights" and based on patient age and clinical condition
  • Maintain barcode override rate below 10%
  • Document interventions that are accurate, pertinent, timely, and legible
  • Include patients, caregivers, and disciplines in care and health teaching
  • Supervise staff members who provide direct patient care
  • Measure health outcomes against patient care goals and standards; make or recommend necessary adjustments
  • Resolve patient problems and needs by utilizing multidisciplinary team strategies
  • Maintain safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations
  • Adhere to infection-control policies and protocols, medication administration and storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations
  • Document patient care services by charting in patient and department records
  • Maintain continuity among nursing teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs
  • Protect patient confidentiality and maintain patient confidence
  • Ensure operation of equipment by completing preventive maintenance, following manufacturer's instructions, troubleshooting malfunctions, and maintaining equipment inventories
  • Practice within the scope of license
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, and participating in professional societies

Required Qualifications
