The opportunity

Job Description

The Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania is seeking current BSN students for the Summer 2027 Nurse Extern Program. This eight-week summer employment opportunity runs from May 30th through July 24th and is designed for rising seniors to bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world clinical practice.

As a Nurse Extern, you will work in an assigned clinical unit providing direct patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. You will also participate in weekly classroom sessions with Nurse Educators, including discussion groups and skill workshops to reinforce your nursing knowledge and clinical skills.

Clinical Settings

Positions are available at two locations:

HUP Main: Advanced Medicine, Surgery, Emergency Department, Women's Health, Critical Care, and Cardiology

HUP Cedar: Medicine, Emergency Department, and Behavioral Health

Required Qualifications

  • Current enrollment as a BSN student in a traditional four-year nursing program
  • Rising senior status (summer between junior and senior years)
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA in your BSN program
  • Completion of the Nursing Foundations/Fundamentals Clinical Course
  • Current BLS certification through the American Heart Association
  • Availability for all times, shifts, and weekends

Schedule

The program runs for eight weeks from May 30th through July 24th. You must be available for all shifts, including weekends.
