The opportunity

Job Description

Savannah Christian Preparatory School is seeking a School Nurse to oversee the health and well-being of Summer Camp students. The Nurse will establish and maintain medical and health services programs, provide direct care to students according to physician-prescribed treatment orders, and collaborate with families and staff to promote student health and wellness in a safe school environment.

Responsibilities

  • Establish, review, and maintain medical and health services programs for the school
  • Provide medical care and services to students according to physician-prescribed medical care and treatment orders
  • Create and maintain documentation of all treatment and medical services activity
  • Follow confidentiality and privacy rules and regulations
  • Coordinate with local health agencies and medical treatment facilities as necessary
  • Monitor, provide assistance, and administer insulin to diabetics as required; provide other treatment as necessary
  • Respond to emergency medical situations, perform first aid as needed, and coordinate with local emergency personnel and agencies
  • Maintain adequate supplies in all school first aid kits
  • Follow required cleaning and sanitization procedures
  • Conduct health programs and activities such as in-service training, student health talks, hearing and vision screening, immunization review, and scoliosis screening to ensure compliance with government mandated requirements
  • Prepare first aid kits and prescribed student medications with instructions to accompany staff on field trips and retreats
  • Immediately report any medical situation of sufficient gravity or concern that could pose a significant risk to students
  • Report students with reportable contagious diseases to local public health authorities to minimize infection and comply with state and federal legal requirements
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Certified and Licensed Registered Nurse (RN)
  • CPR and First Aid Certified
  • State licensing requirements must be met and maintained
  • Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, handbooks, and procedure manuals
  • Write routine reports and correspondence
  • Speak effectively before groups of students and staff
  • Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
  • Deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
  • Demonstrate high level of computer literacy with excellent proficiency in word processing, emailing, and accessing the Internet
  • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time
  • Frequently lift and/or move up to 20 pounds; occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to walk the campus grounds
  • Manual dexterity to enter data into a computer
  • Close vision, distance vision, and depth perception
  • Ability to see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids
  • Alert and awake at all times
  • Frequently walk, sit, and use hands to finger, handle, or feel
  • Occasionally stand, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
  • Ability to hear and understand speech at normal levels, outdoors and on the telephone
  • Speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in normal indoor and outdoor spaces and on the telephone
  • Physical agility to bend, stoop, climb stairs, and reach overhead

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience as a school or pediatric nurse

Work Environment

Duties are normally performed in a school, classroom, or office environment. Duties may be occasionally performed outdoors or away from school. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
