Substitute School Nurse

As a Substitute School Nurse, you will provide nursing care to students and school employees during the absence of the regularly assigned school nurse. This professional nursing position involves administering first aid, emergency treatment, health screenings, and related nursing services in a school setting. You will work under the general direction of a School Physician or School Administrator and will not have responsibility for classroom instruction or guidance.

Responsibilities

• Assist the School Physician with visual and auditory screening examinations of students and employees
• Administer first aid and emergency treatment to students and employees
• Provide one-on-one student nursing care as needed
• Prepare and maintain health records for school authorities
• Arrange transportation for sick or injured students or employees to hospitals, homes, doctor offices, or dentist offices in cases of emergency
• Order, inventory, and oversee the storage of first aid and related health supplies and equipment
• Consult with attendance teachers, staff members, and teachers regarding health factors related to non-attendance and communicable disease
• Prepare records and reports as required

Required Qualifications

• Current New York State professional nurse's registration, which must be maintained throughout employment

Preferred Qualifications

• Registered Nurse (RN) license
• Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) will be considered
