Job Description

Join University Health Truman Medical Center as a Student Nurse Extern in our Labor & Delivery department. This PRN position offers nursing students the opportunity to gain hands-on clinical experience in an acute care setting under the direct supervision of Registered Nurses. You will assist with patient care in the LDRP (Labor, Delivery, Recovery, Postpartum) unit while applying classroom knowledge to real-world situations and developing essential clinical skills.

Clinical Setting

You will work in the Labor & Delivery department at Truman Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri, a dynamic acute care environment where you'll collaborate with experienced nursing staff and an interdisciplinary healthcare team.

Responsibilities

  • Assist licensed personnel in delivering patient care
  • Apply nursing program coursework to real-world clinical situations
  • Learn from experienced Registered Nurses and gain clinical insights
  • Contribute to a compassionate, collaborative healthcare team

Schedule

  • PRN (as needed) position
  • Hours: 6:45 AM - 7:15 PM
  • Approximately 4 hours per week
  • Part-time employment

Required Qualifications

  • Current enrollment in an accredited nursing program pursuing an associate's or bachelor's degree in nursing
  • Successful completion of fundamentals of nursing course (lecture and clinical) with demonstrated competency in basic skills
  • Confirmation of enrollment as a full-time student required each semester
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA while enrolled in your nursing program
  • Strong communication skills and collaborative attitude
  • Ability to function in a fast-paced acute care environment

Additional Requirements

  • Complete all SNE (Student Nurse Extern) competency training and education within 90 days of hire
