Student Nurse Extern Program

ECU Health Medical Center is seeking Student Nurse Externs for a structured clinical learning program. As a Student Nurse Extern, you will perform nursing responsibilities under the direction and supervision of a BSN-prepared nurse, functioning within the framework of your NAII certification and the philosophy and goals of patient care services at one of North Carolina's four academic medical centers.

ECU Health Medical Center is a 974-bed flagship hospital serving as the primary teaching hospital for The Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University. The medical center has achieved Magnet designation twice and provides acute and intermediate care, rehabilitation, and outpatient health services to a 29-county region.

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or higher education
• Completion of 1-2 years of formal nursing training or education
• Successful completion of the first year in an accredited nursing school
• NAII and NAII II certification prior to program start date
• AHA BLS certification
• Recommendation by a clinical faculty member

• Unofficial college transcript
• Personal essay (minimum 250 words) describing why you would like to participate in the Nurse Extern Program and what you hope to contribute to patient care during the experience
• Three letters of recommendation: one clinical facility reference, one academic reference, and one personal or professional reference
