Student Nurse Extern II, Day Shift, Progressive Care Unit (PCU)

Shady Grove Medical Center is seeking a Student Nurse Extern for the Progressive Care Unit (PCU) to provide care for adult patients. In this role, you will fulfill all Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) duties and perform advanced nursing skills under the supervision and guidance of a registered nurse. You may be counted in unit staffing as applicable and will not be used in a companion role.

You will be hired as a variable-part time (VPT) employee and report directly to the unit manager. While primarily assigned to the PCU, you may also work in Med-Surg, Acute Rehabilitation, and Behavioral Health areas.

Responsibilities

• Fulfill all CNA duties
• Perform advanced nursing skills under RN supervision and guidance
• Provide direct patient care in adult care areas
• Participate in required orientation and training

Required Qualifications

• Status of Rising Senior (currently enrolled in nursing program)
• Active Maryland Board of Nursing Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification
• Active American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher
• Submitted resume and cover letter
• Submitted transcripts

Schedule

• Minimum 2 shifts per month commitment
• Self-schedule with ability to pick up additional shifts
• Open to all shifts (day or night) and weekends
• Maximum 40 hours per week
• Not eligible for benefits or paid time off accrual

Orientation and Training

• Complete skills lab for nursing
• Complete BTG and CPI class
• Orient with CNA for 3 shifts (must be completed before working independently on the unit)

Employment Classification

• Non-exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA)
• Variable-part time position
