Student Nurse Extern I

Sovah Health - Danville is seeking a Student Nurse Extern I to join our 250-bed academic acute care hospital. This paid PRN position provides nursing students with practical work experience to facilitate their transition into the role of a registered nurse. You will gain hands-on experience across a broad range of acute care, critical care, emergency care, psychiatry, women's and children's services, and surgical/outpatient areas on a 24-hour per unit basis.

Responsibilities

• Work collaboratively with the patient care team
• Perform direct patient care under the direction, delegation, and supervision of a registered nurse
• Document patient care provided
• Monitor, record, and communicate patient condition as appropriate to the supervising RN
• Maintain positive professional relationships with patients, families, coworkers, and the healthcare team
• Assist patients with activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, elimination, nutrition, and ambulation
• Collaborate across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including patient transfer, discharge, referral, and spiritual/psychosocial support needs
• Evaluate learning needs of patients and families and provide education appropriate to age, culture, condition, and circumstances
• Advocate for the physical and emotional well-being of patients
• Support performance improvement initiatives

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Currently enrolled as a 3rd year student or higher in a School of Professional Nursing
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association

Schedule

• Variable schedule, PRN (as needed)

Compensation

• Hourly range: $17.16 - $20.38
