Staff Nurse- Operating Room - Mount Sinai Hospital -11AM-9:30PM- Full-Time ( 4 days, and on call weekends)

Mount Sinai Hospital is seeking a Staff Nurse for the Operating Room on an 11 AM to 9:30 PM schedule. This is a full-time position working 4 days per week with on-call weekend responsibilities. You will deliver safe, competent, quality patient care based on nursing theory, research, and evidence-based practice within the framework of Relationship Centered Care.

Responsibilities

• Assess and evaluate patient care needs and apply critical thinking skills in patient care management
• Integrate relevant assessment and intervention skills in the delivery of nursing care
• Collaborate with the interdisciplinary healthcare team in developing, implementing, and evaluating the plan of care
• Prioritize all aspects of patient care including teaching, rounding, coaching, and planning after hospital care
• Educate patients and caregivers about their plan of care, transition of care, health promotion, and disease prevention
• Communicate effectively and professionally with patients, family, and all members of the interdisciplinary patient care team
• Manage assignments within the Modified Primary Nursing care delivery model and demonstrate effective allocation of material resources
• Role model Mount Sinai Relationship Centered Care through admission welcome, bedside shift report, purposeful hourly rounding, medication review, discharge wrap-up, and interdisciplinary collaboration
• Establish and maintain therapeutic relationships with patients and families
• Conduct purposeful hourly rounding on assigned patients
• Practice safe and efficient patient-centered care, identifying and escalating barriers and opportunities for improvement
• Implement process improvement strategies based on institutional and evidence-based procedures
• Engage in formal and informal peer and institutional review processes
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to create and implement quality improvement projects and evidence-based practice activities
• Implement principles of high reliability to identify and avoid high-risk behaviors
• Escalate potential safety hazards or gaps from best practice following institutional chain of command protocol
• Document nursing practice using institutional information technology to support quality and performance improvement initiatives
• Perform charge nurse duties as assigned
• Coordinate with clinical leadership to ensure supplies are appropriately utilized and inventory is sufficient
• Escalate material or staffing resource deficits to appropriate leadership
• Document in an accurate and thorough manner in compliance with hospital, regulatory, and legal requirements
• Facilitate patient throughput on a shift basis
• Contribute to the environment of care to support clinical colleagues, patients, families, and healthcare team members
• Advance clinical competence in nursing practice
• Serve as a professional role model and preceptor for new staff and students
• Participate in shared decision making through specialty practice councils and unit initiatives

Clinical Setting

Operating Room at Mount Sinai Hospital, part of one of the largest academic medical systems in the New York metro area.

Schedule

• 11 AM to 9:30 PM
• Full-time, 4 days per week
• On-call weekend responsibilities

Required Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited nursing program with either a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) or Associate's Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Current registration as a Registered Nurse in New York State
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA)
• Relevant clinical competence in nursing practice; new graduates must possess current knowledge of the nursing process and its application
• For ADN-prepared RNs with nursing experience, approval by the Chief Nursing Officer is required

Preferred Qualifications

• Operating room experience
• RN who is matriculated in a BSN program with a graduation date within the year (for ADN-prepared nurses)

Compensation

• Hourly rate: $64.85
• Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and operational need
• Salary does not include bonuses, incentive pay, differential pay, or other forms of compensation or benefits
