Kaiser Permanente is seeking a Staff Nurse II for the Operating Room Outpatient Surgery Center in San Jose. This is a part-time position working 32 hours per week on a day shift schedule (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM).
As a Registered Nurse II, you will assume responsibility and accountability for a group of patients during your designated time frame. You will provide direct patient care in the outpatient operating room setting, utilizing the nursing process, therapeutic communication, and collaboration with the interdisciplinary health care team.
Responsibilities
- Perform ongoing systematic assessment and data collection, focusing on physiologic, psychosocial, cultural, spiritual, and cognitive status, as well as nutrition, pain management, patient and family education, family involvement, and patient advocacy
- Formulate goal-directed plans of care based on nursing diagnoses and patient outcomes
- Implement care in a thorough, skillful, consistent, and continuous manner
- Establish priorities for patient care based on essential patient needs and available unit resources
- Identify patient and family learning needs and implement appropriate educational measures
- Demonstrate awareness of and sensitivity to patient and family rights, age-specific needs, and cultural and ethical beliefs
- Provide and coordinate care for patients and patient populations
- Establish effective working relationships with health care team members, patients, and families
- Delegate appropriately and coordinate duties of health care team members
- Evaluate the effectiveness of care provided by health care team members
- Utilize effective communication methods and follow lines of authority as appropriate
- Demonstrate knowledge of and apply safety principles within the institution
- Perform efficiently in emergency patient care situations following established protocols, remaining calm and documenting events appropriately
- Demonstrate responsibility and accountability for your own professional practice
- Participate regularly in staff development activities for unit and department personnel
- Demonstrate knowledge of legal issues, including patient confidentiality and risk management
- Participate in unit and department performance improvement activities as directed
- Participate in nursing research activities as requested

- Demonstrate a service philosophy in all interactions with patients, families, and health care team members
- Provide data for staffing decisions and demonstrate flexibility in resolving staffing issues and floating to other units when requested
- Demonstrate proficiency in computer use and electronic medical record systems, including navigation in a Windows environment
- Perform other related duties as necessary
Required Qualifications
- One year of recent experience (within the last 3 years) circulating and/or scrubbing surgical procedures in an outpatient surgery center and/or hospital operating room, OR completion of a KP Ambulatory Surgery Training Program within the past 12 months
- High School Diploma or GED
- Graduate of an accredited registered nursing program with completion of current hours required by the California Board of Registered Nursing (BRN) for RN student clinical experience, OR graduate of a registered nursing program with either: (1) 2000 hours of RN experience in the clinical specialty area from a licensed acute care facility within three years of graduation, or (2) graduate of an accredited licensed vocational nursing program that includes clinical student experience in acute care and has worked 2000 hours as a licensed vocational nurse within the clinical specialty area within three years before graduation, OR (3) currently enrolled in an accredited entry-level Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) program and has completed pre-licensure requirements to practice nursing
- Active California Registered Nurse License
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Demonstrated knowledge of the RN scope of practice
- Demonstrated commitment to service orientation for members, staff, and providers
- Demonstrated effective written and oral communication skills in English
- Good interpersonal skills
Schedule
- Part-time, 32 hours per week
- Day shift: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday
- 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM
- No travel required
Additional Information
- If no qualified candidate is identified, the employer may be willing to train in specialty areas. Candidates in training are required to obtain appropriate certifications within 6 months of hire or transfer into the unit.
