Job Description

VHC Health is recruiting new graduate nurses for a Spring 2027 Operating Room Nurse Residency program. This is a structured, paid residency designed to support your transition from nursing school into professional practice in the operating room setting.

VHC Health is a 548-bed, independent, not-for-profit teaching hospital located in Arlington, Virginia, and a Level II Trauma Center. VHC Health was the first hospital in Northern Virginia to achieve this accreditation.

About the Residency Program

The New Graduate Nurse Residency Program provides approximately one year of structured support to help you develop clinical reasoning, decision-making, leadership, and evidence-based practice skills. You will work with an experienced preceptor on your home unit in the operating room and participate in monthly cohort sessions alongside other new graduate nurses. Support is provided by experienced preceptors, nursing leaders, Staff Development Specialists, and Advanced Practice Nurses throughout the residency and beyond. Two residency cohorts begin each year.

  • Provide direct and indirect total nursing care to assigned patients
  • Supervise assigned personnel as appropriate
  • Demonstrate knowledge of department and hospital policies and procedures
  • Communicate and present information in written, auditory, and visual formats
  • Develop clinical reasoning and decision-making skills in the operating room environment
  • Participate in evidence-based practice initiatives

Required Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in Nursing or Bachelor's degree in Nursing
  • Active licensure as a Registered Nurse by the Virginia Department of Health Professions or Compact State Licensure in Nursing
  • BLS certification
  • New graduate status with one year of nursing or patient care experience in an acute care setting

New to practice area nurses and new graduates have one year to complete specialty requirements. Operating room nurses are required to maintain ACLS certification.
