Specialty Unit Staff RN - PICC

Kaiser Permanente Woodland Hills Medical Center is seeking a Specialty Unit Staff RN to join the PICC Line Placement department. In this per diem role, you will provide professional nursing care utilizing the nursing process in accordance with established standards of care, policies, and procedures. You will serve as a leader of the healthcare team, demonstrating quality and effectiveness in clinical practice while treating patients, families, and colleagues with dignity and respect.

Responsibilities

As a Specialty Unit Staff RN, you will:

• Develop and contribute to individualized plans of care reflecting assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of outcomes
• Ensure plans include multidisciplinary planning, consultation, and education tailored to patient needs, age-appropriate care, and cultural considerations
• Discuss care plans with patients, families, and significant others in a timely manner
• Monitor patient progress and revise plans on an ongoing basis based on patient condition and evaluation
• Ensure effective development and completion of discharge plans, including identification of discharge barriers and patient/family education
• Ensure patients understand discharge instructions, medication purposes, side effects, and administration instructions
• Maintain patient safety related to medications, procedures, fall prevention, decubitus prevention, and infection control
• Ensure optimal pain control and patient comfort; identify and discuss patient anxieties, fears, or concerns
• Provide accurate, legible, dated, and timed documentation reflecting nursing process, interventions, and evaluations
• Utilize computer systems effectively and efficiently for optimal patient care
• Discuss patient findings and progress toward outcomes with physicians and other healthcare team members
• Participate in departmental performance improvement activities
• Apply standard precautions and maintain a safe environment for self and others
• Answer call lights, alarms, and patient requests promptly
• Maintain and protect patient confidentiality
• Ensure a clean, orderly, and functional work environment
• Treat all patients and families with courtesy, respect, kindness, and compassion
• Provide patient care experiences that exceed member expectations by actively listening and taking responsibility for meeting identified needs
• Serve as a resource, preceptor, and mentor to new employees, registry staff, students, and team members
• Delegate tasks appropriately and demonstrate accountability
• Understand own and team members' scope of practice and escalate issues as appropriate
• Champion new ideas and lead others through the change process
• Utilize communication strategies including chain of command and issue escalation
• Participate in problem identification and resolution
• Mentor, orient, and coach others in unit-specific operations and patient care activities
• Comply with regulatory requirements, policies, procedures, and standards of practice
• Attend all mandatory meetings, in-services, and staff meetings as required
• Participate in assessment of current and future unit learning needs
• Report to assigned area promptly and be present for report at the beginning of your assigned shift
• Support a collaborative Labor-Management Partnership environment
• Organize work to minimize overtime use
• Identify and assist in systems improvement

Clinical Setting

This position is located at Woodland Hills Medical Center in Woodland Hills, California, within the PICC Line Placement department.

Schedule

• Per diem position
• Day shift: 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM
• Available seven days per week (Sunday through Saturday)

Required Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse License in California
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
• One year of recent (within the last three years) full-time equivalent experience in acute care or ambulatory care
• Basic arrhythmia course required

Additional Requirements

• PICC didactic course and recent (within the past three years) PICC insertion experience may be required
• If administering chemotherapy, a current ONS Provider Card or APHON certification is required
