Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital is hiring a Registered Nurse Service Line Coordinator (Unit Coordinator) for the Main Operating Room in Charlottesville, VA. This is a full-time, first shift position working 6:45 AM to 3:15 PM with occasional on-call coverage for PTO. The ideal candidate will have scrub, circulation, or procedural experience in sterile fields.

Clinical Setting

The Operating Room at Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital performs an average of 7,000 cases annually across 8 OR suites. The department offers a variety of service lines including Complex GYN, Neurosurgery, Vascular/Thoracic, and Orthopedic surgery. The facility is the second highest-performing OR in the Sentara system for orthopedic total joint procedures. Sentara Martha Jefferson maintains an RN turnover rate under 12.6% and has the highest patient satisfaction scores in the Sentara system.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate urology, plastics, and neurology service line operations
  • Coordinate service line instruments and equipment purchase needs
  • Provide service line education to staff
  • Participate in staff interviews
  • Ensure all rooms with your specialty are ready for the day
  • Attend quarterly meetings with manager and director regarding service line projects and process updates
  • Review used pick tickets for changes and provide to central sterile processing tech or charge auditor
  • Work with vendors and materials management to ensure needed items and identify cost reduction opportunities
  • Check expiration dates on specialty carts and areas not stocked by materials management
  • Support precepting of staff to service line
  • Collaborate with surgeons in your service line
  • Support and facilitate change initiatives
  • Provide input for electronic patient records
  • Eliminate unused products, items, and equipment
  • Keep service line equipment in good working order and organized
  • Work with central sterile supply on instrument set needs, condensing of trays, and changes to reduce costs
  • Submit and follow work orders as needed on equipment used in your service line
  • Review surgery schedule in advance to identify potential equipment, instrument conflicts, or supply and implant issues

Schedule

  • First shift (days): 6:45 AM to 3:15 PM
  • On-call: 1 to 2 shifts per 6-week schedule on average

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
  • Active Registered Nurse license
  • BLS certification required within 90 days of hire
  • 18 months of acute care RN experience
  • Scrub and circulator experience in an operating room

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master of Science in Nursing (MSN)
  • Professional Specialty Nursing Certification (CNOR)
  • Completion of a PeriOp 101 program
  • Previous operating room experience
  • Experience managing complex cases in fast-paced environments
  • Strong communication skills with patients and providers
