Service Coordinator Lead Surgical Technologist - Operating Room

Health First is seeking a Service Coordinator Lead Surgical Technologist to support surgical operations in the operating room. In this role, you will perform technical activities related to patient care and support functions under the direction of a registered nurse, while maintaining the highest standards of quality, safety, and customer experience.

Responsibilities

• Prepare operating rooms with appropriate instruments, sutures, supplies, and equipment
• Open sterile supplies and arrange sterile setups for surgical procedures
• Create, maintain, and terminate sterile fields for surgical procedures
• Handle and care for all instruments and equipment, checking for proper functioning and reporting faulty equipment per policy
• Anticipate the needs of surgeons and surgical assistants, passing instruments, sutures, sponges, and supplies during operative procedures
• Assist with precepting new technical personnel and participate in the on-the-job training program as both a didactic instructor and clinical preceptor
• Update and maintain surgeon preference cards
• Serve as a role model, maintaining professional decorum reflective of leadership
• Attend in-services and mandatory meetings
• Cooperate with nursing staff in the individualized plan of care for each patient

Required Qualifications

• Completion of Health First's On-The-Job Training Program for Surgical Technician, OR graduation from a Surgical Technologist program (Military, Community College, or School for Surgical Technology), OR one year of work experience as a surgical technician or surgical assistant
• At least one year of experience as a surgical technologist
• American Heart Association BLS Healthcare Provider Completion Card prior to start date, with ongoing maintenance required
• Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English
• Ability to perform basic math
• Reliable transportation with ability to respond from location within 30 minutes of assigned facility when on call
• Ability to be flexible and adaptable with daily schedule and assigned tasks
• Ability to respond appropriately to stressful or life-threatening situations
• Detail-oriented with ability for continuous concentration on activities
• Excellent customer service skills with ability to interact effectively with medical staff and patient care teams
• Motivated to complete milestones and competencies with ability to receive constructive criticism
• Ability to work autonomously while consulting chain of command as appropriate

Physical Requirements

This position requires medium work with the following physical demands:

• Physically agile; may require walking, standing, running, bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing, or crouching frequently
• Lifting or moving objects up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, with or without assistance
• Moving self in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments, including tight and confined spaces, reaching out and above shoulders or overhead
• Lifting, turning, pulling, pushing, or ambulating people and/or equipment with or without assistance up to 90% of the assigned shift
• Exposure to inside and outside environments with varied temperatures, air quality, lighting, and low to loud noise
• Working with biohazards such as blood and body fluids and airborne particles following OSHA and CDC guidelines
• Visual acuity and hand-eye coordination to perform tasks
• Communicating with others to exchange information

Schedule

• Full-time position
• Shift: 6:30 AM to 3:00 PM
• May require travel to various facilities within and beyond county perimeter; may require use of personal vehicle
