Job Description

The University of Rochester is seeking a Patient Care Technician to join the Hematology-Oncology Nursing Department. Under the direction of a licensed nurse, you will provide direct patient care by performing basic and specialized procedures that contribute to patient well-being, comfort, and safety.

Clinical Setting

This position is located in the Hematology-Oncology Nursing Department at the University of Rochester Medical Center, 90 Crittenden Blvd, Rochester, New York.

Responsibilities

  • Perform basic and specialized physical and psychosocial interventions as defined by the Patient Care Technician Skill Inventory
  • Collect and record specimens and body fluids
  • Perform direct patient care under the direct supervision of a nurse
  • Perform technical procedures including venipuncture for blood samples, EKGs, electrode placement, and telemetry readings
  • Collect patient data and document findings on appropriate flow sheets
  • Collect specimens, perform basic tests, or send specimens to the laboratory for analysis per hospital policies
  • Attend to patients' environmental needs, including straightening belongings and offering comfort measures as directed by the nurse
  • Orient patients and families to the unit and patient room, and provide copies of the Patients' Bill of Rights as directed
  • Participate in Quality Assurance activities as directed by the nurse
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the nurse to support unit functioning and patient care delivery

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma
  • Two years of experience in health care delivery in positions such as Nursing Assistant, Home Health Aide, EMT, or Medic/Corps Person; OR two clinical semesters completed as a Nursing Student; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience

Schedule

  • Full-time position
  • 36 scheduled weekly hours
  • Rotating shifts

Compensation

  • Pay range: $20.29 - $27.53 per hour
  • Individual pay is set in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement (UR SEIU 027 H)
  • This range represents the first and last step pay rates as set forth in the collective bargaining agreement
