School Registered Nurse (The Schwartz School)

Meeting Street is seeking a full-time Registered Nurse to provide comprehensive health services to students at The Schwartz School, a special education setting serving children of all abilities. This position involves administering medications, performing specialized nursing procedures, and managing complex medical needs during school hours.

Clinical Setting

You will work in a school-based environment, providing nursing care in classrooms, during special activities, and on field trips. The student population includes children with diverse medical and developmental needs.

Responsibilities

• Administer medications and perform nursing procedures ordered by physicians, including G-tube feedings, catheterizations, respiratory treatments, dialysis, dressing changes, wound care, tracheostomy care, and suctioning
• Perform ongoing health status evaluations and medication/treatment reviews to identify health needs and potential problems
• Document all nursing care and changes in students' health status
• Communicate timely updates to families and school staff regarding health concerns or changes in health status
• Collaborate with other disciplines involved in students' care to optimize their school experience

Schedule

• Full-time position, 40 hours per week

Physical Requirements

• Ability to sit, stand, and walk continuously during the workday
• Ability to bend, stoop, squat, kneel, and grip with both hands
• Ability to use hand power tools and computers
• Ability to transfer patients, climb stairs, reach above shoulder level with both arms, and assist in lifting and carrying students and transfers from wheelchairs to equipment

Required Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse license in Massachusetts
• Willingness to become licensed as a Registered Nurse in Rhode Island
• Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) or CPR certification
• Ability to adapt to medical and technical equipment needed to provide health services

Compensation and Benefits

• Salary range: $70,000 to $90,000 annually based on related experience
