School Registered Nurse

Meeting Street is seeking a full-time School Registered Nurse to support the health and well-being of students during school hours. This role provides direct nursing care to children of all abilities in a special education setting, managing both routine health issues and emergency situations.

Clinical Setting

You will work in a school environment, providing care to students in classrooms, during special activities, and on field trips. The position requires flexibility in adapting to various medical and technical equipment needed to support student health services.

Responsibilities

• Maintain the health and well-being of students during school hours, addressing daily health issues and responding to emergency situations
• Keep up-to-date health records for all students and assist with scheduling mandatory health screens
• Plan and implement necessary nursing procedures, developing new procedures as needed
• Administer medications and perform nursing procedures ordered by physicians during school hours, including G-tube feedings, catheterizations, respiratory treatments, dialysis, dressing changes, wound care, tracheostomy care, and suctioning
• Perform ongoing health status evaluations and medication/treatment reviews to identify health needs and potential problems
• Document all nursing care and changes in student health status
• Communicate timely updates to parents, teachers, and therapy staff regarding health concerns or changes in student health status

Schedule

• Full-time position, 40 hours per week

Required Qualifications

• Active Rhode Island RN license
• Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) or CPR certification
• Ability to adapt to medical and technical equipment as needed
• Physical capability to lift, push, and pull up to 35 pounds independently and up to 100 pounds with adaptive equipment or assistance from another staff member
