This position provides direct health care services to school-age students, managing chronic conditions, immunization requirements, and coordinating care while ensuring state compliance. The school nurse serves as a liaison between the school, medical community, and other agencies involved in student health and welfare.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct care to students with special health care needs
- Manage chronic conditions and immunization requirements
- Coordinate care between school, families, and medical providers
- Ensure state compliance with health and safety regulations
- Maintain complete, accurate, and timely documentation of health services
- Communicate professionally with administration, nursing supervisors, faculty, parents, and students
Required Qualifications
- Current Alabama license as an Associate Degree Nurse (ADN), Bachelor's Degree Nurse (BSN), or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
- Current CPR certification
- Clinical nursing skills necessary to provide safe care to students with special health care needs
- Ability to communicate professionally and effectively with administration, nursing supervisors, faculty, parents, and students
- Ability to demonstrate complete, accurate, and timely documentation of health services rendered
Preferred Qualifications
- Clinical nursing experience with school-age children in hospital, community health, or pediatric clinic settings
Reporting Structure
Reports to the Principal, Student Services Coordinator, and Nurse Supervisor.
Schedule
Nine-month contract (187 days).
