School Nurse

This is a full-time School Nurse position at the high school level, providing comprehensive health services to the school community. The role encompasses physical, emotional, and mental health support for students, serving as a key health resource for the school community including students, parents, teachers, and staff.

Clinical Setting

High school environment with a 10-month contract and additional summer hours. Start date is as soon as possible.

Responsibilities

• Assist with health examinations for new entrants and students in grades Pre-K, K, 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, and 11, as well as athletic certification
• Maintain health records and provide documentation of services
• Maintain communication with parents, teachers, and staff regarding student health
• Maintain close working relationship with school physician
• Contact outside agencies and make referrals when appropriate
• Work with support personnel within the school regarding student health
• Conduct annual immunization survey of student records as required by the State Health Department
• Review immunization records of all incoming students and make appropriate referrals
• Maintain records and conduct vision, hearing, and spinal column screenings as required by New York State Law
• Serve as a member of the Pupil Personnel Services team
• Store and administer medication in accordance with New York State Law
• Provide first aid and services for student illness, injury, counseling, handicapping conditions, and chronic illness
• Serve as a resource for current health information from outside health agencies
• Process daily attendance, tardy students, and early dismissal
• Conduct periodic inspection of facility and report to appropriate staff
• Process school Incident and Accident Insurance Claim Forms and Workman's Compensation Forms
• Serve on building committees to assist student achievement
• Carry out other duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools and Board of Education

Required Qualifications

• New York State Certification as a Registered Nurse

Compensation

• Minimum salary of $45,578 or based on applicable experience
