School Nurse Teacher

PVD Prep seeks a School Nurse Teacher for our 5th through 8th grade college preparatory public charter school in Providence, Rhode Island. In this role, you will provide comprehensive nursing care to middle school students while teaching health curriculum and supporting the school's wrap-around services and behavioral health initiatives.

Clinical Setting

PVD Prep is a tuition-free public charter school serving diverse Providence middle school students. You will work within a school environment that emphasizes college preparation, literacy, numeracy, and the arts.

Responsibilities

• Provide basic first aid, administer medications, and perform nursing procedures as necessary
• Perform ongoing health status evaluations and medication/treatment reviews to identify health needs and potential problems
• Document all nursing care and changes in student health status
• Communicate regularly with families and health care providers regarding students' health needs
• Teach or coordinate the teaching of health curriculum to students
• Support school-wide wrap-around services, including facilitation of counseling and behavioral mental health services
• Work closely with students with behavior challenges and their families; partner with school support staff and teachers to execute individualized behavior interventions
• Provide staff with annual professional development related to blood-borne pathogens, universal precautions, and basic first aid
• Promote overall health and well-being through staff and student education regarding effective health and safety practices
• Ensure that staff CPR certifications are up to date
• Monitor student health records to ensure immunizations and physicals are current
• Maintain security of school health supplies
