School Nurse - RN - PRN

Ochsner Health is seeking a School Nurse (RN) on a PRN basis to provide nursing care within a school system. In this role, you will administer nursing care using the nursing process, participate in the implementation and evaluation of student care, and ensure the health, comfort, and safety of students.

Responsibilities

• Administer nursing care within a school system framework
• Effectively use the nursing process in the delivery of patient and student care
• Assess learning needs and implement teaching strategies appropriate for the diverse needs of patients, families, and other groups or disciplines
• Use data, information, and knowledge to evaluate and promote change in order to achieve optimal outcomes
• Adapt behavior to the specific patient population, including respect for privacy, appropriate methods of introduction, adapting explanations of services or procedures, requesting permissions, and adjusting communication style
• Embrace concepts and behaviors that enhance customer satisfaction, employee morale, and improvement in the nursing profession
• Remain knowledgeable on current federal, state, and local laws, accreditation standards, and regulatory agency requirements that apply to the assigned area of responsibility
• Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and standards
• Perform other related duties as required

Required Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
• Current registered nurse (RN) license in state of practice
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association
• Proficiency in using computers, software, and web-based applications
• Effective verbal and written communication skills with ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals throughout the patient care process
• Excellent organizational and time management skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in nursing

Physical and Environmental Demands

This position involves exposure to blood, body fluids, and tissue. The incumbent works in a patient care area, works directly with students, and may work with specimens that could contain diseases. There is occupational risk for exposure to all communicable diseases. Because the incumbent works within a healthcare setting, there may be occupational risk for exposure to hazardous medications or hazardous waste through receipt, transport, storage, preparation, dispensing, administration, cleaning, and/or disposal of contaminated waste.

The physical demands of this position include exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
