School Nurse (RN) - An Achievable Dream Middle and High School

An Achievable Dream Academy, Middle and High School in Newport News, Virginia is seeking a School Nurse (RN) to provide professional nursing care to students and staff. Working collaboratively with the Newport News Public Schools' Health Services Supervisor, you will perform health screenings, assess healthcare needs, administer medications, and provide classroom education and health counseling. This role uses the Living Healthy well care model to facilitate individualized goal achievement and improve health and wellness outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Perform and interpret health screenings and assess students' healthcare needs
• Administer medications to students and staff
• Provide classroom education and health counseling
• Develop and implement health programs based on clinic needs
• Develop surveys to assess the health needs of students, staff, and community members, and evaluate results
• Participate in health fairs and education programs offered to the local community
• Create and maintain an efficient, competent, and professional clinical environment
• Manage supplies and control expenses

Required Qualifications

• Nursing program graduate (Associate or higher)
• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license from the Virginia Department of Health Professions (VDHP)
• CPR/BLS certification from the American Heart Association, American Red Cross, or American Safety and Health Institute
• One year of experience in a well care or community health setting

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in nursing
• One year of classroom teaching experience

Compensation

• Hourly rate: $30.60 - $42.08
• Actual pay is determined based on job-related factors including relevant experience, education, credentials, skills, internal equity, and business needs
