Raymond C. Richer Elementary School seeks a School Nurse to provide comprehensive health services to the school population during the 2026-27 school year, starting as soon as possible. This role combines clinical nursing practice with health promotion, emergency response, and student wellness coordination in a K-12 school setting.
Responsibilities
- Perform skilled nursing procedures in a safe, competent, and effective manner
- Provide first aid and emergency care for injuries and illnesses occurring during school hours
- Maintain daily logs of students seen in the health room and complete all required documentation
- Notify parents of student illness or accidents that occur during school hours and complete appropriate accident forms
- Conduct health screenings and report findings as appropriate
- Maintain accurate, timely, and complete documentation in the electronic health record while ensuring confidentiality of student and staff medical information
- Collect and systematically evaluate student and school health data including physical assessments, health screenings, emotional and behavioral assessments, substance use, nutritional status, environmental factors, school culture, and safety
- Develop and implement individual health care plans for students with regular follow-up on progress
- Administer prescribed medications to students according to district policy
- Serve as a liaison and resource to students, faculty, and community on health-related issues
- Inform teachers and staff of medical issues that may affect their work
- Identify health and medical causes for student absenteeism and contribute to school plans to decrease absences
- Review student immunization and medical records prior to school admission
- Maintain a confidential list of students with medical concerns and share information with appropriate school personnel
- Participate in and present nursing findings, guidelines, and recommendations at team and staff meetings
- Provide resources to students, families, and faculty regarding school safety and environmental health issues
- Maintain the health office and assigned equipment and supplies
- May supervise students with medical needs during transportation on occasion
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing from an accredited institution
- Valid, current Massachusetts Registered Nurse (RN) license
- Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education School Nurse license
- Previous pediatric nursing experience
- Current CPR/AED certification from a recognized provider
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience as a School Nurse
Compensation
- Placement on the Teacher's Salary Scale according to education and experience
Reporting Structure
- Reports to the Building Principal and Superintendent or designee
