Housatonic Valley Waldorf School seeks a part-time School Nurse to provide routine and emergency health care to students in Pre-K through Grade 8. This position offers the opportunity to work in an alternative educational setting while supporting the physical, social, and emotional health of students.
Clinical Setting
Housatonic Valley Waldorf is a Pre-K through Grade 8 school. The position requires familiarity with and respect for alternative educational methods.
Schedule
- Part-time (.6 FTE)
- 8:00 AM to 12:45 PM
- Start date: Immediately
Responsibilities
- Provide routine and emergency health care, including medication administration, to students Pre-K through Grade 8
- Initiate, develop, maintain, and coordinate student health condition management and make appropriate referrals
- Promote and protect the optimal physical, social, and emotional health of students to support the education process
- Implement all federal, state, and local screening mandates and laws
- Observe, identify, and address health patterns and atypical findings
- Maintain, evaluate, and interpret cumulative health data to accommodate individual student needs
- Provide health education and appropriate referrals to community resources for students and families
- Serve as a liaison between students, school, and home
- Work collaboratively with school administrators and staff
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree (Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred; related degrees considered)
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license to practice nursing in the State of Connecticut
- Current CPR Certification
- Minimum of one year of experience in hospital nursing, school health nursing, community health nursing, or pediatric nursing
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
- Strong technology skills and knowledge of Google Sheets and Docs
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with young children with Type 1 Diabetes
Compensation
- Salary per the Newtown Public Schools Contract
