Parish Episcopal School seeks a full-time School Nurse to provide direct nursing services to students and support the health and wellness of the school community. This is an 11-month position (August through mid-June/July) with hours Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM to 2:30 PM.
Clinical Setting
You will work in a school clinic environment serving approximately 1,220 students in a co-educational college preparatory independent school (PreK-12th grade) in Dallas, Texas.
Responsibilities
- Provide medical care and services to students according to physician-prescribed medical care and treatment orders
- Create and maintain documentation of all treatment and medical services activity
- Maintain student immunization records and other medical records in compliance with confidentiality and privacy regulations
- Maintain and update student medical records in the myPARISH/SNAP system
- Confer with students, parents, and faculty/staff regarding medical treatment
- Administer daily and as-needed medications and nursing care procedures prescribed by students' physicians
- Monitor, provide assistance, and administer insulin to diabetic students as required
- Respond to emergency medical situations, perform first aid as needed, and coordinate with local emergency personnel and agencies
- Assist with CPR and First Aid training for all employees and maintain required training records
- Maintain inventory of clinic supplies and materials, develop and monitor procedures for maintaining adequate supplies in all school first aid kits
- Collaborate with the Director of Student Health Services in all aspects and functions of the school clinic
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in nursing or graduation from an accredited nursing program
- Current RN or LVN licensure in the State of Texas (RN is preferred)
- Current First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation certification
- Computer literacy and competency in Microsoft Office Software and health software
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills to communicate productively, professionally, and empathetically with students, parents, and the school community
- Well-organized and detail-oriented with high energy and sense of urgency
- Ability to handle confidential material and situations with discretion and sensitivity
- Demonstrated dependability through consistent attendance, punctual arrival, and readiness to perform assigned duties
- Ability to maintain appropriate boundaries with students, staff, and community members
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in pediatric nursing
- Experience as a school nurse
Physical Requirements
- Regularly work in standard office or classroom conditions
- Use close and distance vision, including working at a computer screen for extended periods
- Observe students from various distances
- Frequently move around the campus, office, and classroom; work at a desk for extended periods
- Occasionally move items weighing up to 30 pounds across campus, classroom, or office
