Spring Lake Elementary School seeks a School Nurse to protect and promote student health, facilitate optimal development, and support academic success. As the school nurse, you will serve as a leader who bridges health care and education, providing care coordination, advocating for quality student-centered care, and collaborating to design systems that allow students and communities to develop their full potential.
Clinical Setting
You will work at Spring Lake Elementary School, 4215 South 20th Street, Omaha, NE 68107, serving students of various ages with varied medical issues in a diverse, multicultural urban setting.
Responsibilities
- Provide nursing and health care for children with varied medical issues
- Conduct on-site health assessments and develop and implement appropriate emergency health care plans
- Ensure compliance with the state's immunization program
- Maintain cumulative student health records according to statutory requirements
- Take appropriate measures in response to injury, communicable disease symptoms, signs of abuse, or other conditions affecting student welfare
- Maintain secure storage for all medications and medical equipment to ensure safety
- Provide meaningful communication and health education to students and families
- Participate in the building's crisis team and provide appropriate medical care for school staff and visitors during crisis situations
- Participate in the school's wellness committee
- Maintain open lines of communication with parents, guardians, and staff
- Coordinate with other school professional staff members and participate in faculty meetings and committees
- Perform other related tasks as assigned by Central Office Administrators
Required Qualifications
- Completion of a Registered Nursing Program
- Valid nursing license with Nebraska's Department of Health & Human Services or the Nurse Licensure Compact
- Certification in Basic Life Support (CPR & AED) or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire
- Minimum of Bachelor's degree or evidence of actively working towards a bachelor's degree
- Ability to develop positive relationships to promote mutual dignity and respect among students and staff
- Ability and patience to work interactively with students
- Excellent attendance record
- Willingness and ability to comply with standards for ethical and professional performance established by the State Board of Education
- Skills in organization, time management, communication, and positive interpersonal skills
- Ability to conform to proper standards of professional dress and appearance
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to effectively use Microsoft Outlook and the student information system
- Displays a significant degree of professionalism and confidentiality
- Knowledge of OPS's mission, purpose, goals, and the role of every employee in achieving them
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing
- Ability to obtain and maintain a valid Special Services School Nurse Certificate through the Nebraska Department of Education
Education
Minimum of Bachelor's degree or evidence of actively working towards a bachelor's degree is required. Bachelor of Science in Nursing is preferred.
Licenses and Certifications
- Valid nursing license with Nebraska's Department of Health & Human Services or the Nurse Licensure Compact (required)
- Basic Life Support (CPR & AED) certification or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire (required)
- Special Services School Nurse Certificate through the Nebraska Department of Education (preferred)
Schedule
This is a 10-month position, 188 duty days (August through May), per negotiated agreement. The position is exempt. Extra duty assignments at $40 per hour are available during Summer School (June-July).
Compensation
Salary is based on the negotiated agreement and placement on the salary schedule. Salary credit may be awarded for applicable experience.
2026-27 Salary:
- Step 1 with Bachelor's Degree: $51,380
- Step 1 with Master's Degree: $58,023
- Step 1 with PhD: $65,646
If unable to start on the first duty day, salary will be prorated based on remaining duty days worked during the school year.
Start Date
As soon as October 2026. The employer will work with the candidate on timing.

Travel
Limited travel may be required.
Equipment
This position may require the ability to use assistive technology in addition to basic office equipment such as computers, copiers, scanners, and fax machines. You must comply with OPS's guidelines for equipment use.
Terms of Employment
This is a full-time exempt certified position. Employment is contingent upon:
- Verification of a valid Nebraska Teaching License or other required license
- A background check demonstrating background is acceptable for the position and working with or around students
- Verification of U.S. Citizenship or legal authorization to work in the United States
- Successful completion of a tuberculosis skin test (if required by federal law)
- Execution and delivery of a Teacher Contract presented by OPS
Employment will be governed by applicable state laws regulating employment or teaching in a Nebraska public school, Board of Education policies, the Teacher Contract, and any applicable negotiated agreement between OPS and a collective bargaining representative.
