School Nurse (LPN) - An Achievable Dream Middle and High School

An Achievable Dream Academy, Middle and High School in Newport News, Virginia is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse to provide professional nursing care to students and staff. Working collaboratively with the Health Services Supervisor, you will perform health screenings, assess healthcare needs, administer medications, and provide classroom education and health counseling. You will use the Living Healthy well care model to facilitate individualized goal achievement and improve health and wellness outcomes. This role includes developing and implementing health programs based on clinic needs, participating in health fairs and community education programs, and managing clinic supplies and expenses.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the Health Services Supervisor to supervise and provide professional nursing care to students and staff
• Perform and interpret health screenings and assess healthcare needs of students
• Administer medication
• Provide classroom education and health counseling
• Participate in health fairs and education programs offered to the local community
• Develop surveys to assess the needs of students, staff, and community members and evaluate results
• Initiate programs for development and implementation based on clinic needs
• Create and maintain an efficient, competent, and professional clinic environment
• Manage supplies and control expenses

Required Qualifications

• Nursing program graduate
• Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license from Virginia Department of Health Professions (VDHP)
• CPR/BLS certification from American Heart Association, American Red Cross, or American Safety and Health Institute
• One year of experience in well care or community health setting

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in nursing
• One year of classroom teaching experience

Compensation

• Hourly rate: $23.90 - $31.10
• Actual pay is determined based on job-related factors such as relevant experience, education, credentials, skills, internal equity, and business needs
