San Diego Workforce Innovation High School is seeking a full-time School Nurse to provide comprehensive health management and support to students across multiple school sites in the region, including City Heights, Chula Vista, El Cajon, Escondido, Lake Elsinore, Lakeside, Lemon Grove, Moreno Valley, Murrieta, National City, and Vista. This position reports to the Director of Special Education and requires travel between locations to meet site-specific needs.
Clinical Setting
You will work in a school-based setting supporting diverse student populations, including students with special needs. The role involves assessment, evaluation, and maintenance of health services and health education to promote student health, well-being, academic achievement, and holistic development.
Responsibilities
- Assess and evaluate the health and development status of students; provide case management, referral, and follow-up for students with health conditions and medical problems
- Conduct state-mandated screening and follow-up including vision, hearing, and scoliosis screening; audit immunization, dental, and physical exam records
- Review and monitor medications administered to students according to District Board Policy and Administrative Regulations
- Serve as District liaison to interpret health and development assessments to parents, teachers, administrators, and other professionals
- Design and implement individual student health maintenance plans as a health care provider in compliance with District policy
- Attend and participate in meetings and trainings as required, including team, staff, and IEP meetings
- Interpret medical and nursing findings appropriate to students' IEPs and 504 plans; make recommendations to professional personnel and submit reports to ensure compliance with District, state, and federal policies
- Implement health actions determined by District, local, and state officials to control and manage communicable diseases, including immunization programs
- Document student health information in the District's electronic database as required
- Collect data regarding health-related student conditions
- Construct policies to assist staff with student health-related conditions
- Submit monthly, state, and annual reports as required by the California Department of Health Services and the District
- Perform additional administrative duties and responsibilities as assigned
Schedule
- Full-time, Monday through Friday
- 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Travel Requirements
- Ability to travel between multiple school sites in performance of job duties is required
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
- California Registered Nurse (RN) License (School Nurse Credential may be obtained once employed)
- Current Healthcare Provider CPR and First Aid Certification
- Audiometry Certificate (mandatory within 1 year from date of hire)
- Intermediate skills in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and standard office equipment
- Ability to work in team environments and with multiple levels of personnel
- Ability to work with students with special needs
- Ability to maintain accurate and confidential records
- Knowledge of current medical terminology, equipment, and techniques
- Knowledge of operation of specialized health assessment instruments
- Knowledge of medication effects and administration procedures
