Legacy Traditional Schools is seeking a School Nurse to provide comprehensive health support to students in a school setting. You will address the health needs of students, implement school health programs, and provide appropriate care and referral for ill, medically fragile, and injured students.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct professional nursing care to students, including first aid, illness, and injury care, using clinical decision-making within the nursing scope of practice
- Administer prescription and over-the-counter medications in compliance with South Carolina law, provider orders, and district medication policies; maintain accurate medication documentation and secure storage
- Respond appropriately to medical emergencies
- Provide nursing care to students with chronic illnesses, such as asthma, diabetes, seizures, and severe allergies in alignment with provider orders
- Develop, implement, and evaluate Individual Healthcare Plans (IHPs) for students with special healthcare needs
- Participate as a member of IEP and Section 504 teams as needed for students with special healthcare needs
- Conduct required student health screenings and create a safe environment for students
- Implement infection control practices and manage communicable disease situations according to South Carolina Department of Public Health guidance and district procedures
- Complete and maintain appropriate student health documentation and reporting
- Train and supervise designated unlicensed school personnel to perform approved health-related tasks in accordance with the South Carolina Board of Nursing Advisory Standards; provide oversight and consultation when nursing care is delegated
- Serve as a positive liaison among students, families, school personnel, healthcare providers, and community agencies
Physical Requirements
- Frequent walking, standing, stooping, lifting, and moving of equipment or materials weighing up to 40 pounds
- Ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time
- Ability to see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids
- Ability to hear and understand speech at normal levels and on the telephone
- Ability to speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in person and on the telephone
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
Required Qualifications
- Degree in nursing
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) licensure from the South Carolina State Board of Nursing
- Current CPR/AED certification
- Pass a criminal history background check

- 2 or more years of school health experience
- First Aid Certification
