Crisp County Primary School seeks a School Nurse-Lead to provide comprehensive health services and leadership for the district's school health program. In this role, you will minimize student absences due to illness, create a climate of health and well-being across district schools, and lead health service initiatives while reporting to the Principal.
Clinical Setting
This is a full-time position within a school district serving primary school students. You will work in the school health office environment, conducting health screenings, managing student health records, and coordinating with school staff, parents, physicians, and external agencies on health matters.
Responsibilities
- Conduct school health services including physical examinations, immunizations, and hearing and vision tests
- Select and refer students in need of medical and/or dental care
- Report to parents, school personnel, physicians, clinics, and other agencies on school medical matters
- Maintain updated cumulative health records on all students
- Observe students regularly to detect health needs
- Assume authority in the absence of a physician for care of students or staff members who have suffered injury or emergency illness
- Participate with school staff in developing and implementing the total school health program
- Advise on modifications to educational programs to meet individual student health needs
- Prepare and submit reports to the superintendent and State Board of Health
- Authorize exclusion and readmission of students in connection with infectious and contagious diseases
- Advise teachers on health matters, particularly regarding screening for student health defects
- Assist school personnel in establishing sanitary conditions in schools
- Develop and provide training to staff who administer medication to students
- Coordinate establishment, review, and implementation of school health services policies and procedures
- Coordinate establishment of guidelines, procedures, and training in First Aid/CPR/First Responder Programs
- Direct, monitor, and evaluate health aides and assistants assigned to the school health program throughout the system
- Provide in-service training to school personnel on health issues
- Maintain prompt and regular attendance and ensure primary workstation and responsibilities are covered during working hours
- Maintain and manage files, records, office supplies, materials, and equipment appropriately and accessibly
- Demonstrate proficiency with computer applications as applicable to job responsibilities
- Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information and adhere to chain of command
- Perform all other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor
Required Qualifications
- Active LPN or RN license
- Written and oral communication skills
- Medical training and ability to work with children
- Ability to make independent and timely nursing decisions and to triage
- Pleasant personality and cooperative attitude
- Physical skills and stamina to perform essential duties
- Knowledge and proficiency in computer applications
- Professional appearance and demeanor

Schedule
This position is scheduled to work 190 days per year on an 8-hour daily basis. If you do not start at the beginning of the school year, your compensation will be prorated. The position is available to begin on January 5, 2027.
Compensation and Benefits
Salary is based on the CCSS Classified Salary Schedule A26, with starting pay of $25.01 per hour and maximum pay of $41.60 per hour. Steps are awarded with verifiable experience at a rate of 1:1 step per year for school district experience, or 1:2 step per year for experience outside a school district. Yearly salary is calculated by multiplying the hourly rate by 8 hours by the number of work days, then dividing by 12 months (or prorated months if applicable). This position is eligible for Teacher's Retirement.
