School Nurse, HL/LVIS

Williamsport Area School District is seeking a School Nurse for the 2026-2027 school year, assigned to Hepburn-Lycoming Primary and Lycoming Valley Intermediate Schools. This is a full-time, 188-day position reporting to the Building Principal.

The School Nurse plans and administers comprehensive health services to support students in successfully completing their educational programs. You will work collaboratively with parents, students, staff, and administrators to create a safe, healthy learning environment that supports student growth and academic success.

Responsibilities

• Administer the school health program, including identification of students with health needs, scheduling physical examinations, monitoring immunizations, and conducting mandated health screenings
• Develop strategies with students to benefit from health services and support positive, lifelong health decisions
• Provide counseling and guidance to students regarding health issues and identify students in need of medical or dental care, making appropriate referrals
• Select, design, and organize health service objectives, strategies, and materials; recommend modifications to meet individual student health needs
• Evaluate students' health, emotional, and social growth; maintain appropriate health records and communicate with students, parents, and staff
• Use data to improve health issues that support learning, instruction, social and personal development
• Observe students regularly to identify health needs
• Assume authority in the absence of a physician for care of students or staff who have suffered injury, illness, or health emergency
• Authorize exclusion and readmission of students in connection with infectious and contagious diseases
• Direct and monitor the LPN (Health Room Technician) in the health office
• Support staff in creating an effective, healthy, and safe learning environment
• Coordinate efforts to develop and implement a total school health program
• Supervise students in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned work day
• Instruct students in citizenship and advise on decision-making techniques as specified in state laws, regulations, and District policies
• Participate in faculty meetings and school-sponsored programs supporting the educational and health services program
• Maintain professional competence through District-sponsored in-service programs and approved professional development
• Demonstrate regular and timely attendance
• Follow all Board policies and building procedures; submit required information and reports within identified timelines

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree minimum
• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license
• Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) certification as required by law, including No Child Left Behind (NCLB) compliance
• Ability to speak and write clearly and concisely
• Ability to move throughout the building (all floors) and school grounds as necessary
• Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds

Preferred Qualifications

• PDE School Nurse certification for PK-12
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
