This position provides comprehensive nursing care to school program participants under general supervision. As a School Nurse, you will assess and monitor medical concerns, deliver routine and emergency nursing care, and manage health documentation and reporting according to program regulations.
Responsibilities
- Monitor and assess program participants' medical concerns
- Provide routine and emergency nursing care to program participants
- Complete all required documentation, medical reviews, and charts according to program regulations
- Administer medications skillfully and correctly
- Accurately and promptly implement physicians' orders
- Screen and conduct health appraisals for students and staff
- Advise patients on health maintenance and disease prevention
- Enforce infection-control policies and procedures
- Participate in safety programs
- Review and act on incident reports
- Orient, train, and manage personnel in health and safety areas
- Identify problems and guide personnel to appropriate resources
- Serve as a resource person on health issues
- Provide staff development on health-related topics for staff and volunteers
- Assist in reviewing and revising medical policies and procedures
- Maintain effective relationships with other departments and units for continuity of care
- Keep supervisor informed of individual needs and problems
- Perform other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
- Registered Nurse (RN) with valid New York State License
- Knowledge of pediatrics, including child development and specific diagnoses
- Working knowledge of public health problems and procedures for treatment in coordination with other health and social service agencies
- Ability to maintain professional approach with confidentiality
- Ability to maintain acceptable standards of patient care
- Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal, organizational, and active listening skills
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment with strong collaboration skills
- Exceptional problem-solving skills with proactive approach and ability to make quick, independent decisions in response to changing conditions
- Proficiency with Internet Explorer, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Word, and Windows Operating System
Physical Demands
- Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds frequently, and up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects
