Renaissance Academy is seeking a full-time school nurse to provide comprehensive health services to students in a K-12 school setting. This position follows the 10-month school calendar and requires a current, valid Pennsylvania RN license and current CPR certification.
You will administer prescription and non-prescription medications according to school policy and Pennsylvania Code 022, provide first aid, and maintain detailed health records including immunizations, physicals, vision and hearing screening results, postural screenings, and student measurements. You will assess students who are ill or injured, provide appropriate nursing interventions and referrals, and coordinate care with parents, school staff, physicians, and clinics.
Responsibilities
- Assist in maintaining a comprehensive school health program
- Collect and maintain student health information for compliance with state immunization regulations and Board of Education policies
- Conduct school immunization programs, physical examinations, and vision and hearing testing
- Perform nursing assessment for ill or injured students and provide first aid and nursing care
- Maintain accurate records and documentation in accordance with state and federal law and Board of Education policies
- Report to parents, school district personnel, physicians, clinics, and others as needed to meet student health needs
- Convey appropriate medical information to school district staff or medical professionals
- Provide medical assessment to school district employees as requested
- Attend field trips with students as requested
- Provide health education to students as requested
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited school (BSN strongly preferred)
- Current, valid State of Pennsylvania RN license
- Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, symptoms, diagnoses, treatments, first aid, illnesses, injuries, and nutrition
- Ability to perform arithmetic operations and use personal computers and software applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Internet, Outlook, email)
- Ability to problem solve job-related issues
- Ability to work with diverse individuals and students with special needs
- Ability to follow oral and written orders from supervisors, administrators, and physicians
- Ability to describe orally and in writing school health services, issues, and concerns
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff, and others

Schedule
- Full-time position following the 10-month school calendar
Physical Requirements
- Regularly move about and traverse throughout the school building
- Often remain in a stationary position for considerable periods
- Occasionally reach with hands and arms; sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
- Lift at least 20 pounds (books, school supplies, etc.)
- Frequently use hands to finger, handle, or feel; use hand strength to grasp tools
- Use medical equipment including blood glucose monitors, stethoscopes, thermometers, and sphygmomanometers
