Colbert County High School is seeking a School Nurse to assist the Lead School Nurse in providing health services to students. In this role, you will deliver nursing care to students with special health needs, implement individual health care plans, administer medications, respond to medical emergencies, and support the overall health and wellness programs of the school.
Responsibilities
- Provide nursing care for students requiring special health procedures and implement Individual Health Care Plans (IHCP)
- Administer medication in accordance with board policy
- Provide first aid and respond to potential emergency situations, including administration of Glucagon and other medications as needed
- Record health data according to IHCP requirements
- Assess and manage communicable health problems such as head lice, scabies, and impetigo
- Assist school personnel in determining student exclusion and readmission related to infectious and contagious diseases
- Attend IEP meetings as directed by the Lead School Nurse
- Contact the Lead School Nurse and principal regarding suspected child abuse or neglect cases
- Assist with health screenings and employee training
- Support classroom management activities such as organizing instructional materials
- Notify the Lead School Nurse of medical questions or unusual occurrences
- Perform additional duties as assigned by higher authority
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Current LPN or RN licensure through the Alabama Board of Nursing
- Ability and willingness to meet the needs of children and parents
- Ability to work cooperatively with school personnel and parents
Preferred Qualifications
- CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain
Schedule
- Nine-month year position with salary in accordance with the Board-approved State Salary Schedule
Reporting
- Reports to the Lead School Nurse and Principal
Evaluation
- Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the Board's Policy on Evaluation of Support Personnel
