The opportunity

Job Description

Colbert County High School is seeking a School Nurse to assist the Lead School Nurse in providing health services to students. In this role, you will deliver nursing care to students with special health needs, implement individual health care plans, administer medications, respond to medical emergencies, and support the overall health and wellness programs of the school.

Clinical Setting

You will work in a school environment, supporting students from kindergarten through high school. You will report to the Lead School Nurse and Principal and collaborate with school personnel, parents, and students to meet health care needs.

Responsibilities

  • Provide nursing care for students requiring special health procedures and implement Individual Health Care Plans (IHCP)
  • Record health data according to IHCP requirements
  • Administer medications in accordance with board policy
  • Provide first aid and respond to potential emergency situations, including administration of Glucagon and other medications as needed
  • Assess and manage communicable health problems such as head lice, scabies, and impetigo
  • Assist in determining student exclusion and readmission related to infectious and contagious diseases
  • Attend IEP meetings as directed by the Lead School Nurse
  • Assist with the development of IHCPs
  • Assist with health screenings and employee training
  • Contact the Lead School Nurse and principal regarding suspected child abuse or neglect cases
  • Notify the Lead School Nurse of medical questions or unusual occurrences
  • Assist with classroom management tasks such as organizing instructional materials
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by higher authority

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • LPN or RN with current licensure through the Alabama Board of Nursing
  • Ability and willingness to meet the needs of children and parents
  • Ability to work cooperatively with school personnel and parents

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPR/First Aid certification, or willingness to obtain

Schedule

  • Nine-month year position with salary in accordance with the Board-approved State Salary Schedule
