Constellation Schools is seeking a School Nurse in Cleveland, Ohio to provide quality health services at assigned school(s). You will work within the Ohio Nurse Practice Act and Standards of School Nursing Practice, supporting student health, safety, and academic achievement through comprehensive health services, health education, case management, and collaboration with school staff, families, and community health providers.
Responsibilities
- Facilitate normal student development and positive response to interventions through research and evaluation of school health services and nursing practices
- Maintain accurate health records on each student in accordance with FERPA
- Promote a healthy school environment for staff and students and monitor student health status on a daily basis
- Implement communicable disease prevention and reporting following state, county, city health department, and district guidelines
- Supervise compliance with district policy and Ohio immunization laws through referrals, auditing, follow-up, exclusion, and exemptions
- Facilitate ordering of school health supplies and equipment
- Provide first aid supplies and PPE to staff members and deliver necessary training for safe use
- Assist with OSHA compliance and exposure control planning
- Provide medication training to designated unlicensed staff and supervise medication administration at least once every 60 days
- Provide training and supervision to unlicensed staff on district health and clinic procedures
- Prepare and submit required state, local, and Constellation health reports
- Collaborate with school staff to identify health education resources and provide health education, counseling, and referrals to students and staff
- Serve as a resource person to school staff in health instruction
- Review, evaluate, and develop health procedures and programs using evidence-based resources
- Provide direct nursing care for students with identified health problems
- Provide first aid, supportive care, and referral for illness and injury
- Monitor student and staff health conditions and provide referrals as necessary
- Assess child abuse and neglect reports and make appropriate referrals; support staff in their roles as mandated reporters
- Provide screening, referral, and follow-up services for state-mandated vision and hearing screenings
- Create and implement student-specific plans of care including Emergency Action Plans, Individual Health Plans, and 504 plans in collaboration with staff
- Provide staff training regarding IHP, emergency action plans, 504s, and health-related topics pertinent to their students
- Provide direct and indirect supervision to an LPN under the direction of the School Nurse Program Coordinator
- Delegate nursing tasks to designated staff in accordance with Ohio's Nurse Practice Act and maintain records of clinical training
- Participate in data collection related to health services provided daily
- Participate in professional development through attendance at identified meetings
- Serve as a liaison between school personnel, administration, family, community, and health care providers
- Communicate with parents regarding student health issues presenting during the school day
- Consult with health care providers regarding student health issues to coordinate assessment and treatment plans
- Coordinate school and community health activities and seek collaborative partnerships with community-based health organizations
- Collaborate with staff regarding special education and healthcare needs; perform health assessments for multi-factored evaluation; attend IEP conferences, staffings, and RTI meetings as appropriate
- Perform other services as requested by the School Nurse Program Coordinator or designee
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
- ODE school nurse licensure
- Current Ohio license as a Registered Nurse
- Experience working with children
- Proficiency in relevant computer applications
- Accuracy in keyboard skills and proven ability to enter data with attention to detail
- Ability to multitask, prioritize, and meet deadlines
- Excellent communication skills
- Problem-solving skills with ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner and gather and analyze information skillfully
- Ability to maintain confidentiality, remain open to others' ideas, and exhibit willingness to try new things

- Ability to edit work for spelling and grammar, present numerical data effectively, and read and interpret written information

Compensation and Benefits
Salary range: $50,000 - $60,000. Starting pay within this range may be affected by geography/market, skills, education, experience, and other qualifications.
