School Nurse (10M/FT)

This full-time School Nurse position is located at the Career & Technical Education - Schoharie Campus. You will provide comprehensive health services to schoolchildren, working under the supervision of a higher-level administrator. You may supervise Licensed Practical Nurses as needed.

Responsibilities

• Provide emergency first aid services for students and staff
• Schedule and perform vision, hearing screenings, and scoliosis checks
• Consult with parents and physicians and dispense medications as prescribed
• Assist students with inhalation therapy and insulin injections as prescribed
• Assist the school physician with class screenings and interscholastic athletics physical examinations
• Submit accident reports on students and employees and provide follow-up with parents and/or employees
• Participate as a member of the management team addressing health and safety issues for students and staff
• Assist faculty and staff with reporting of sexual and physical abuse cases
• Serve on various student and management teams representing the medical profession with concerns for health and safety
• Prepare the health office budget and maintain inventory of supplies
• Keep and maintain complete and accurate health records
• Supervise the work of Licensed Practical Nurses as needed

Required Qualifications

• Graduation from a school of nursing approved by the New York State Education Department from a course approved by such Department as qualifying for Registered Professional Nurse
• Active license issued by the State of New York to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse at the time of appointment
• CPR Certification at the time of appointment

• Selected applicants will be subject to a fingerprint-supported criminal history background check in accordance with SAVE Legislation effective July 1, 2001
• Vacancies are filled by certified list provided by Albany County Civil Service. Should no certified list be available, candidates appointed to this position will serve in a provisional appointment in accordance with New York State Civil Service Law. The candidate must successfully complete a competitive examination and be eligible for appointment in accordance with Civil Service Law and the Civil Service Rules for Albany County to obtain a permanent appointment
