Licking Memorial Health Systems seeks a School District Nurse to administer a comprehensive health service program designed to help students achieve maximum benefit from the district's educational programs and services.
Clinical Setting
You will work within a local school district, serving as the primary health professional responsible for student health and wellness. This role is part of Licking Memorial Health Systems, a non-profit healthcare organization serving Licking County since 1898.
Responsibilities
- Consult with district administrators regarding student health services, identify safety and health hazards, investigate and document injuries, and recommend policy revisions based on professional guidelines and standards
- Serve as the district's blood-borne pathogen compliance officer
- Uphold board policies and follow administrative procedures
- Promote a favorable image and encourage community partnerships that enhance district programs
- Prepare the clinic by setting up equipment and completing supply requisitions
- Develop procedures to ensure all medicines are properly stored
- Evaluate district procedures for administering medications and train staff
- Provide assistance to sick and injured students and administer first aid
- Ensure that the immunization status of all students is in compliance with state law
- Ensure that signed permission forms are on file as needed for the release of health information
- Make exclusions or readmission recommendations regarding students with communicable diseases or other health concerns
- Perform all required state minimum student health screening activities
- Assist with kindergarten screening programs
- Instruct teachers in the early identification of students' health risks
- Evaluate suspected medical, visual, or hearing problems, consult parents as needed, and make medical referrals
- Review completed medical emergency authorization forms and communicate information to staff when required to protect students' health and well-being
- Participate in curriculum planning and make health and wellness presentations
- Maintain accurate records, supervise the preparation of clinical records to ensure accuracy, and submit reports on time
- Respect personal privacy and maintain the confidentiality of privileged health information
- Report suspected child abuse and/or neglect to civil authorities as required by law
- Maintain a working relationship with community health resources
- Participate in parent conferences and other school activities as directed
- Perform other job-related duties as directed
Required Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
- Current RN license in the state of Ohio
- Meets all mandated health requirements (e.g., negative tuberculosis test)
- Record free of criminal violations that would prohibit public school employment
- Compliance with drug-free workplace rules and board policies
- Extensive knowledge of normal growth and development
- Ability to access pharmacology information and community health resources appropriate to the needs of students
- Training and/or experience in behavioral management techniques
- Strong communication skills, verbal and written
Preferred Qualifications
- School nurse license or certificate
Additional Requirements
Licking Memorial Health Systems is accredited by DNV and TJC and may require specific annual education related to specialty certifications and standards.
