School Based Registered Nurse

Baltimore City Public Schools seeks a School-Based Registered Nurse to provide comprehensive health services that promote student health and educational success. This full-time position serves students across assigned school(s), combining direct clinical care, health education, case management, and leadership in school health programming.

Clinical Setting

You will work in a school environment serving students with varying health needs, from acute illness and injury to chronic medical conditions. You will be part of a multidisciplinary educational team and serve as a liaison between school personnel, families, healthcare professionals, and the community.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct healthcare to students in cases of injury or acute illness
• Develop and implement Individualized Healthcare Plans for students with chronic illnesses and medical disabilities
• Complete nursing appraisals for students with chronic illnesses and medical disabilities
• Develop and promote health education programs for the school community
• Maintain all clinical records in compliance with regulations
• Coordinate state-mandated annual vision and hearing screenings for assigned school(s)
• Counsel students, parents, teachers, and school administrators regarding health problems and provide referrals to community resources
• Develop plans and procedures for emergency management of illnesses and injuries; train school staff accordingly
• Monitor and track student immunization compliance
• Train and supervise Licensed Practical Nurses and unlicensed school staff in administering routine and emergency medications to students with chronic health conditions
• Serve as a member of multidisciplinary student support teams, providing health counsel for Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and Section 504 Plans
• Serve as a member of the student wellness support team, providing input on mental wellness and case management
• Demonstrate knowledge of child development and common childhood health conditions
• Perform, analyze, and interpret various assessment measures
• Work with minimal on-site supervision and adapt to multiple school settings
• Maintain proficiency with computer systems including Microsoft Office; EHR experience is preferred
• Ensure all activities comply with equal employment and non-discrimination policies, federal and state laws, school board policies, and professional standards

Required Qualifications

• Valid license as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of Maryland, in good standing with the board
• At least one year of clinical experience in a tertiary care setting
• Valid U.S. driver's license
• Legal authorization to work in the U.S.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN); Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) from an accredited institution is acceptable
• Pediatric care experience
• EHR experience

Education

An Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) from an accredited institution is required; a Bachelor's degree is preferred.

Compensation and Benefits

This is a full-time position with an hourly salary range of $40.94 to $61.21. The hiring range is $40.94 to $48.83. This position is eligible for benefits and is affiliated with Local 44 (L44) bargaining union and the City Retirement Plan.
