The Nurse Manager is a registered nurse responsible for clinical leadership and operational management of a designated patient care service area within a health center. This role oversees patient flow, clinical care delivery, staff management, and quality improvement initiatives while ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and organizational policies.
Clinical Setting
- Ambulatory health center environment
- Serves walk-in and telephone-based patient populations
- Collaborates with providers on procedures, diagnostics, and treatment regimens
Responsibilities
- Assess, identify, plan, implement, and evaluate processes, technology, personnel, and facility needs to achieve safe patient outcomes in a patient-centered environment
- Manage effective patient flow within the health center for both telephone and walk-in patients
- Provide direct nursing care and health education to patients
- Assist providers with procedures, phone calls, referrals, and problem-solving
- Oversee maintenance of clinical inventory and forms
- Interview, hire, terminate, discipline, and evaluate patient care staff
- Monitor selection and use of health center supplies, technology, and equipment
- Assess reports, customer surveys, evaluations, and other data to identify process and facility improvement needs
- Communicate care area purpose and goals to the care team
- Ensure staff understanding of and compliance with infection control mandates
- Verify that assigned patient care providers' abilities align with patient and family healthcare needs
- Conduct and facilitate leadership and nursing meetings, maintaining records of minutes
- Collaboratively develop and participate in an interdisciplinary quality improvement program
- Ensure compliance with regulatory agency standards
- Keep all health center staff informed of medical center developments and participate in patient care area planning and problem-solving
Required Qualifications
- Licensed Registered Nurse in New York State
- Minimum of two years of nursing experience
- Demonstrated ability to perform venipuncture and administer medications including immunizations
- Demonstrated experience with telephone triage and diagnostic procedures
- Demonstrated ability to provide quality care to patients and guide nursing staff
- Demonstrated ability to plan, make decisions, organize, and direct the work of others
- Demonstrated organizational, clinical, and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated ability to problem-solve using critical thinking
- Demonstrated basic computer skills including typing
- Current BCLS certification
- Current Infection Control Certificate
- Current Child Abuse Certificate
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum of three years of experience in an Ambulatory, Medical Surgery, or ER setting
- Associate degree or Bachelor's degree in Nursing
- Bilingual proficiency in Spanish
