RN Student Nurse Extern Float Pool

Join Johnston-Willis Hospital as an RN Student Nurse Extern in our Float Pool, gaining hands-on clinical experience while actively enrolled in an accredited RN nursing program. Clinical Setting

Johnston-Willis Hospital is a 290+ bed acute care facility serving Greater Richmond and the Tri-Cities area. The hospital specializes in cancer care and neuroscience services, including a Neuroscience and Gamma Knife Center and Focused Ultrasound capabilities. As a float pool extern, you will work across various units within the hospital.

Responsibilities

• Provide essential patient care including assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs), vital sign monitoring, mobility support, and comfort and hygiene measures
• Perform nursing tasks such as wound care, catheter care, specimen collection, and other basic procedures as you gain experience and competency
• Document patient care accurately and communicate timely updates with the nursing team to ensure coordinated, seamless care
• Help patients and families understand their care plans and provide guidance for health and recovery
• Maintain clean and safe patient areas by following infection prevention practices, managing equipment, and organizing the environment
• Engage in learning opportunities, share ideas to improve patient care, and work with your supervisor or preceptor to develop your personal career development plan

Required Qualifications

• Active enrollment in an accredited RN nursing program
• Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) certification must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
• No previous work experience required

Compensation

Hourly wage estimate: $16.02 - $22.43 per hour. Actual salary may vary based on specific skills, years of experience, and comparison to other employees in the role. Typical candidates are hired below the midpoint of the range.
